Cuban minister denounces that the US prevents the arrival of more than 7 thousand containers of supplies to the island

Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade, Oscar Pérez-Oliva, stated, in a hearing in the Cuban parliament, that the United States is preventing the arrival of more than 7,000 containers with legitimately acquired goods, including food and medicine, from arriving in Cuba.

Also part of the shipment are components necessary for the modernization of the National Electrical System and water treatment systems, which require maintenance and are in conditions that directly impact the population’s daily lives.

The Pérez-Oliva complaint shows that the embargo restrictions imposed by the United States affect not only the country’s commercial operations, but also access to basic goods and the restoration of essential infrastructure.

“Right now, [os EUA] prevent the arrival of more than 7 thousand containers that are in different ports in the Caribbean. And it contains goods legally acquired by Cuba. Those who prevent the arrival of these products are responsible, but also those who do nothing to combat this genocide,” said Pérez-Oliva.

Solidarity

On Friday (24), diplomatic representatives, popular movements and solidarity organizations gathered to celebrate Cuban National Rebellion Day. Held in the auditorium of the National Library, the event marked 73 years since the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, on July 26, 1953, considered the starting point of the Cuban Revolution.

The main speech of the night was from the Cuban ambassador to Brazil, Víctor Cairo, who related the historical significance of the date to the current international scenario and the sanctions imposed by the United States against Cuba. According to the diplomat, the fight started by Fidel Castro remains current in the face of attempts to economically suffocate the country.

“Millions of Cubans have suffered the impact of the blockade for more than 60 years. They suffer Donald Trump’s executive orders, they face the energy siege, the blackouts, the lack of medicine and all the conditions of war imposed by the United States’ genocidal policy against Cuba,” he said.
