A shooting at a food festival in Seattle, in the northwest of the United States, killed three people and injured four others last Sunday night (26). The dead are a 44-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman, according to information from the Seattle Police Department.
Among the injured is a child, taken to Harborview Medical Center. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg reported that the victims suffered injuries to their arms, abdomen and legs.
One of the shooters surrendered after being approached by police, while the other, who was already wanted by police, fled the scene. According to Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis, authorities believe two people were shooting at each other.
The shooting started around 6pm local time. According to witnesses, the event was crowded, which contributed to the crowd having difficulty dispersing after the attack.
So far, Seattle city council and police have presented different versions of whether or not there were surveillance cameras in the area of the shooting. The police say no, but the city council claims that the location is covered by monitoring. Meanwhile, SWAT and state police officers are collaborating on the investigation.
Mass shootings are not uncommon in the United States. According to a survey by the organization Gun Violence Archive, there will be 271 actions of this type in 2026 alone. The study considers cases in which four or more people are shot as mass shootings.
