A Spanish company hired to provide security for the Ecuadorian Embassy in London has turned against its contractor, selling classified information about it to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The revelations released by the Spanish newspaper The country, based on documents from an investigation, draw attention for being more evidence of CIA spying on conversations involving presidents Lula and Dilma Rousseff, as well as other Latin American leaders. The spied on were all left-wing rulers in South America.
The company’s espionage still involved meetings with Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, who at the time was a refugee from Ecuador in London. The findings on the monitoring of former President Rafael Correia’s meetings with Latino personalities were denounced by experts appointed by Assange’s own defense to Justice. It is because of revelations like this, that the Australian Assange is persecuted by the US government, with the threat of imprisonment that could reach 175 years.
continuous espionage
Former military man David Morales, owner of the security company UC Global, SL, allegedly spied for the CIA on meetings in 2018 between former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa (2007-2017) and former leftist presidents of Argentina (Cristina Kirchner), Brazil (Lula and Dilma Rousseff) and Uruguay (José Mujica), according to reports of a three-year investigation against the former soldier for various crimes.
Experts assigned by Assange’s defense discovered a folder called North America/USA/CIA/Romeo/Brazil/Argentina/March 2018/Venegas Chamorro/Viaje. The folder concerns the details of Correa’s (nicknamed Romeo) meetings with various former presidents of Latin America. On the trip, Correa was accompanied by security from UC Global, SL to escort him.
Morales ordered his workers to spy on the Wikileaks founder’s meetings with his lawyers, but also on the daughters of the former president of Ecuador, especially when he left office, in order to pass on information to his successor and political opponent, Lenín Moreno. Moreno was Correa’s candidate for succession but betrayed him and the entire left by promoting a persecution of the former president, who had to go into exile in Belgium.
reliable company
On Morales’ computer seized by the police after his arrest in 2019 in an attempt to escape, the name of the CIA appears several times on a hard drive with the company’s operations. He sold to whoever paid the most, but ended up not being trusted by contractors like Lenin Moreno, who allegedly leaked information about his company.
Correa terminated the contract with the company, in May 2019, when one of his escorts confessed that Morales had asked them to report information about his meetings and personal and political activities. Correa filed a complaint against Morales, which was admitted to the Spanish National Court.
Morales even threatened to blackmail an Ecuadorian diplomat to keep the contract in London. To that end, he showed intimate and compromising images of the diplomat to various government agents. This revelation is part of the testimonies of the Assange case against Morales.
CIA obsession
By the way, it was the same Assange WikiLeaks website that released in July 2015 a list classified by the National Security Agency (NSA) of the United States as “top secret”, which revealed that, in addition to President Dilma Rousseff, 29 government phones – including those of ministers, diplomats and advisers – were spied on by the intelligence agency. Even the satellite phone installed on the presidential plane, with which Dilma communicated with the world, was tapped by the NSA.
Assange raised suspicions about possible privileged information from the United States, obtained through wiretapping, that could benefit North American companies in the concessions that would be made by the federal government in the area of infrastructure.
“If President Dilma Rousseff wants to see more US investment in Brazil in the wake of her recent trip to the country, as she claims, how can she assure Brazilian companies that US companies do not have an advantage provided by this surveillance. To what extent can she really ensure that the spying has ended – not just on her, but on all Brazilian issues,” Assange said in the statement.
