Beijing opposes meeting of US leaders and

China on Tuesday rejected U.S. efforts to arrange Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen’s “transit trip” to the United States and her meeting with U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said such deals “seriously violate the One China principle”. The representative also stated that “this new situation seriously undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“We urge the United States to abide by the One-China principle and the provisions of the three Beijing-Washington Joint Communiqués, as well as not allow Tsai Ing-wen’s transit trip to China,” the spokeswoman said.

In this line, Mao Ning also urged the United States “not to organize any meeting or contact between Tsai Ing-wen and US political figures and authorities.”

The representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that she will “closely monitor the development of the situation and resolutely defend China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

For its part, McCarthy’s office shared details of the meeting with Tsai Ing-wen in a statement on Monday morning (03/04), indicating that the California Republican will host a bipartisan meeting with the Asian representative at the Ronald Presidential Library Reagan, California.

In addition to the United States, Tsai Ing-wen also made diplomatic visits to Belize and Guatemala.
