The Venezuelan government issued a note in which it “reaffirms its commitment to bonds of fraternity and solidarity with Brazil” and ratifies absolute respect for President Lula’s historical trajectory. The text, published on Tuesday (15), is a retraction of the government in the face of the accusation by the Venezuelan attorney general, Tarek William Saab, who indicated that Lula had become a “CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) agent”, the United States intelligence service.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, highlighted in the note addressed to the international community, especially Brazil, that Saab’s opinion is personal and “does not reflect the official position of the National Executive, responsible for Venezuelan foreign policy”.
According to the prosecutor, not only Lula, but Chilean President Gabriel Boric would also have been recruited by the Americans – an assertion rejected by the Caribbean country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In this public clarification, which appears on the government website (see here), it is also stated that the government of President Nicolás Maduro highlights that national diplomacy reaffirms the “bonds of fraternity and solidarity between Brazil and Venezuela” and that “in recent Over time, both countries have advanced in various political, economic and social aspects, consolidating bilateral relations.”
To conclude, the Bolivarian government also calls for “absolute respect for the historical trajectory of President Lula da Silva and his leadership in Brazil, as well as for the relations between countries, states and peoples that will continue to strengthen”.
