The escalation of conflicts in the Middle East, driven by recent military offensives by Israel and the USA, has sacrificed children, with an alarming increase in the number of victims. Reports from Unicef and local health authorities detail a trail of deaths and injuries to boys and girls. In Lebanon alone, the UN children’s agency reports a tragic average of ten children killed per day.[temsacrificadocriançascomumcrescimentoalarmantenonúmerodevítimasRelatóriosdaUnicefedeautoridadesdesaúdelocaisdetalhamumrastrodemorteseferimentosdemeninosemeninasSónoLíbanoaagênciadaONUparaainfânciareportaumamédiatrágicadedezcriançasmortaspordia
According to Unicef monitoring in conjunction with the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the wave of air strikes reached its peak of lethality in the first days of March. Between March 2 and 9 alone, the number of children killed in the country jumped from 31 to 83, with the number of injured reaching 254 in the same period.
The Lebanese government classified the episodes as an “Israeli aggression” that killed, in total, 394 people in one week. Given the severity, Unicef reinforced that attacks on civilian infrastructure are unacceptable, stating in an official document: “The cost to children is beyond bearable. Parties to the conflict must comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law to protect children and the civil infrastructure on which they depend.”
Israeli and American attacks also cause infanticides in Iran
The situation is equally critical in Iran, where the Ministry of Health indicates that children represent around 30% of total victims since the US and Israeli attacks began at the end of February. One of the most dramatic episodes occurred in Minab, where an attack on a primary school resulted in the deaths of around 168 girls between the ages of 7 and 12. Unicef confirmed the seriousness of the situation and reiterated the need for absolute security in educational environments. “No child should be targeted or die while pursuing an education. Schools should be safe havens, not battlefields.”
Netanyahu caused the extermination of 20,000 children in Gaza
In Gaza, Unicef counts more than 20,000 children killed by Israeli forces since October 2023. In Yemen and Syria, the scenario of hunger and new displacements keeps millions of minors at constant risk. The international agency warns that the deprivation of education and health compromises the future of entire generations, maintaining the call for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access to provide medical supplies and psychosocial support to victims.
