In a statement released on Monday (8 July), the Russian Ministry of Defense denied responsibility for the attack on the children’s hospital in Kiev and said that Ukraine was creating “hysteria”.

In a statement released this Monday (8.Jul.2024), the Russian Ministry of Defense said that the offensive in Ukrainian cities was in response to Kiev’s attempts to “damage objects of Russian power”. Russia also blamed Ukraine for the missile hitting the hospital. “The photos and videos that were released by Kiev confirm that the destruction was caused by a Ukrainian missile launched by a defense system”says the text.

Finally, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukraine is “hysteria” to draw the world’s attention on the eve of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) meeting: “o purpose of such provocations is to secure more funding to continue the war until the last Ukrainian remains”.

Attack this Monday

Russian forces carried out missile strikes on Monday (July 8) on several Ukrainian cities. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a children’s hospital in Kiev was among the targets. At least 20 people were killed in the attack.

More than 40 missiles were fired at several cities. Infrastructure, homes and commercial buildings were damaged.

In a post on his X profile, the Ukrainian president said that Moscow needs to take responsibility for its actions. “Russia cannot claim ignorance about where its missiles are flying and must be held fully accountable for all its crimes. Against people, against children, against humanity in general.”Zelensky wrote.
