In Davos for the World Economic Forum, Ukrainian president defended stricter sanctions against Russia for 2024

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this Tuesday (16 January 2024), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a “predator” and said he wouldn’t accept “freeze” the war that has lasted almost 2 years.

In his speech, Zelensky promoted a peace plan for Ukraine and called for tougher sanctions against Russia. He pointed out how a “clear fragility” from the West the fact that the Russian nuclear industry is not yet subject to global sanctions.

“Putin loves money above all else. The more billions he and his oligarchs, friends and accomplices lose, the more likely he is to regret starting this war.”these.

Contrary to his comments in Davos last year, the Ukrainian president did not make direct calls for weapons for new offensives against the Kremlin. “We need you in Ukraine to build, rebuild and restore our lives”he declared. “Each of you can be even more successful with Ukraine”.

However, Zelensky stated that for Kiev to defeat Moscow’s forces, Ukraine needed Western help to reinforce its military capabilities in the air.

“We must achieve air superiority for Ukraine, just as we achieved superiority in the Black Sea. We can do this. Our partners know what is needed and in what quantities. This will allow progress on the ground,” declared.

The Ukrainian leader recalled attempts to end the conflict supported by Western world leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, but which none were successful due to Putin’s fault.

Zelensky also used the stage in Switzerland to say that the Russian president has expansionist goals beyond Ukraine’s borders.

“If anyone thinks this only refers to Ukraine, they are deeply mistaken. The possible directions and even a timeline of new Russian aggression beyond Ukraine are becoming increasingly evident.”he stated.

According to the Ukrainian president, Russia is responsible for a large part of the world’s conflicts that continue to this day, promoting instability in African nations, Syria and Ukraine through military interventions.

“Putin personifies war. We all know that he is the only reason why various wars and conflicts persist, and why all attempts to restore peace have failed. And he won’t change.”these. “His response to calls for peace is to supply more and more weapons to North Korea and Iran.”.

During this Tuesday (January 16), Zelensky met individually with world leaders in Davos, including the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the secretary- NATO general Jens Stoltenberg.
