Pope says he is confident in the treatment of bilateral pneumonia

In a statement, the Vatican reported on Sunday that Pope Francis had a “quiet night” after having a breathing crisis that needed blood transfusions on Saturday (22). While awaiting results from other tests, the pontiff receives high flow oxygen nasal.

Pope Francis is hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia. In the previous day note, the Holy See had revealed that the state of the Pontiff is critical.

“The state of health of the Holy Father remains critical, so as explained yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger. This morning Pope Francis presented a long -term asthmatic respiratory crisis, which required high oxygen flow therapy. Today’s blood tests also showed a plateletopenia, associated with anemia, which required transfusion administration. Due to the hospitalization in the polyclinic Gemelli, he has been absent from commitments. This Sunday, the Angelus prayer in the Basilica of St. Peter had the Mass presided over, by delegation of the Pope, by Dom Rino Fisichella, pro-mayor of the Dicker for evangelization.

In a message sent, Francisco thanked the professionals involved in his treatment and said he was “confident.”

I thank the doctors and health professionals in this hospital for the attention they dispense with and for the dedication with which they provide their service to the sick ”, said the Pope.

In the continuation of the message, he thanked the affection received, especially from the children: “These days I received many messages of affection and was particularly touched by children’s letters and drawings. Thank you for this proximity and the prayers of comfort I received from the whole world! I all trust Mary’s intercession and I ask you to pray for me. ”

Since February 14 the Pope has been hospitalized for bronchitis. Only on the 18th did the Vatican informed his health with bilateral pneumonia, an infection that makes breathing difficult. The situation attracts special attention and requires proper care, as Jorge Bergoglio (the name of his holiness) removed the upper part of the right lung at 21 years due to pneumonia and three cysts located in the organ.
