Meeting with Israeli and Hamas authorities is scheduled for Sunday (March 3); war has 31,784 dead

Negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip are expected to resume in Cairo on Sunday (3.Mar.2024), 2 Egyptian security officials told Reuters this Saturday (Mar 2, 2024). The talks are mediated by Egyptian and Qatari authorities.

The officials said that the attack by the Israel Defense Forces on a group of Palestinians waiting for the arrival of humanitarian aid trucks on Thursday (29.Feb.2024) made negotiators want to speed up the process for the truce. The attack left 112 dead and 750 injured.

According to the Israeli newspaper Ynet NewsHowever, Israel said it would not send a delegation until it obtained a complete list of Israeli hostages under the extremist group’s control who are still alive.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, stated on Thursday (Feb 29) that the Israeli Army’s attack on the same day would make negotiations for the return of hostages and a ceasefire in the war-torn region difficult.

The number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 30,000. Another 417 died in the West Bank. The data was released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas. There is no way to independently verify the information.

On the Israeli side, the government accounts for 1,139 deaths, 242 of which are military personnel.
