Donald Trump’s government is accused of interference with the governance of Universities of the United States. The president has been active to bring his extreme right ideology into research centers and classrooms. The case made more than 100 representatives of universities, colleges and academic societies produce an open letter, published on Tuesday (22), rejecting the interference of the government.

Harvard, the most prominent university in the country, did not join Washington’s impositions and thus had a federal funding of $ 2.3 billion frozen. In addition, the government threatened to remove tax exemption and ban Harvard from enrolling foreign.

This attack on university finances aims to coerce university management to meet its requirements to supervise students and teachers, as well as the content taught.

Harvard lawyers filed a lawsuit against the Trump government to reverse the freezing of the institution’s funds, as well as pointing out requests that hurt the constitution and disrespect federal laws and civil rights. In the document that accuses the Trump administration of being a risk to higher education with political interference, there are still the support of rectors from other important institutions such as Yale, Brown, Columbia and Princeton.
