In Roraima, PT said he will meet with presidents of countries in the Legal Amazon to discuss how to protect it
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Monday (13.Mar.2023) that he intends to bring together the presidents of the countries in the Legal Amazon to discuss how to protect it in 2023. The statement was given during the 52nd General Assembly of Indigenous Peoples, in Roraima.
“We are going to take care of the Amazon. We are having a meeting later this year with the president of Ecuador, with the president of Venezuela, with the president of Colombia, with the president of Peru, with the president of Bolivia and with Brazil so that we can definitively discuss how we will take care of our forests”he stated.

The idea, according to Lula, in addition to protecting, is to study Amazonian biodiversity so that it can be exploited by its own inhabitants.
“That we can transform the richness of the biodiversity of the entire Amazon region to the benefit of millions and millions of people who live in the Amazon and die of hunger because they cannot survive”he declared.
Despite saying that the agenda should still be done in 2023, Lula did not specify a date or where the meeting with the international leaders would take place.
