Petista lamented the difficulties in Argentina and said that the economy deserved better luck; Milei takes office on December 10th
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (Dec 7, 2023) that he was personally sad about the end of the mandate of Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, as the two have a friendly relationship. Lula gave the statement at the opening of the Mercosul (Southern Common Market) Summit. The PT member said that the 2 countries have always had good relations and lamented the difficulties faced by the Argentine government: “I think you deserved better luck. The economy could do better.”. Fernández’s mandate ends on Sunday (Dec 10) with the inauguration of the elected president, Javier Milei, with whom Lula has already exchanged criticism. In November, Milei called Lula a “communist” e “corrupt” and said that, if he were elected, they would not meet. After the elections, Milei changed her tone. He invited Lula to the inauguration and said he would be well received if he went. Lula, however, will not go. He will send the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, as a representative.
