Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared on Monday (7) that talks with US special presidential envoy Steve Whitkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow and Kiev in recent days represent a “step towards peace”.

“It is clear that any attempt, more or less effective, is a small step towards peace. And we highly value the pacification efforts of American negotiators,” Peskov told reporters on Monday.

At the same time, the spokesman did not provide details about the content of the US negotiators’ proposals for peace between Russia and Ukraine. Peskov added that Moscow does not yet have information about the results of contacts between American representatives in Kiev.

The Kremlin spokesman also admitted the possibility of a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump after the negotiations. Dmitry Peskov recalled that one of the US negotiators, businessman Jared Kushner, had mentioned the possibility of trilateral meetings. “It is too early to discuss the exact location and date,” he added.

After Witkoff and Kushner’s visit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that the talks yielded “several new ideas” for establishing peace in Ukraine.

Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, in turn, announced that the parties were preparing a new trilateral meeting, involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States and Russia. Several summits of this type have already taken place throughout 2025, but were suspended in February 2026, after the start of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran.

The US president’s special envoy said on Monday that visits to Russia and Ukraine led to a series of advances in the search for a solution to the Ukrainian conflict.

“Significant progress has been made, including in planning new trilateral negotiations,” wrote Witkoff on the social network X.

“President Trump is working diligently to end the killings and establish a long and lasting peace,” he added.

Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov had previously stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s talks with American representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which took place in Moscow late last Saturday (5), “were timely and very beneficial for both sides”.

According to Ushakov, following the meeting between US negotiators and President Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader emphasized the need to address all the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict. The advisor also noted that the Russian side provided clear and comprehensive assessments of the situation in the zone of military operations and highlighted the successes of the Russian army on the battlefield.

Yuri Ushakov added that Witkoff and Kushner promised to use the assessments they received from Putin during their meetings in Kiev.
