At least 6 congressmen who were part of the January 8 committee traveled to the country; will meet Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin
A delegation of 6 Brazilian congressmen supporting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) traveled to Washington, in the United States, this Sunday (April 28, 2024), at the invitation of the independent commission that investigated the attack on the Capitol. The meeting aims to exchange experiences about the CPMI (Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the 8th of January.
The CPMI rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) and federal deputies Rogério Correia (PT-MG), Jandira Feghali (PCdoB-RJ), Rafael Brito (MDB-AL) and Pastor Henrique Vieira (Psol-RJ) are part of the delegation.
In a publication on X (formerly Twitter), Rogério Correia stated that the commission will represent Brazil to “discuss the advancement of attacks on democracy that have been occurring around the world”. According to him, the mission “it is being organized” by the Vladimir Herzog Institute. “It will be a week of a lot of work and, certainly, of a lot of learning for both countries”he declared.
