Countries release note condemning Russian aggression after Scholz and Macron discuss expanding military support to Ukraine

Berlin and Paris released this Wednesday (May 29, 2024) a joint statement informing military cooperation with Ukraine. The text reflects the issues discussed by French President Emmanuel Macron during a state visit to Germany. The information is from CNN.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday (May 28) in the city of Brandenburg, Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared support and encouraged Ukrainian attacks against Russia. The representatives stated that the country must organize military offensives because the Russian government is carrying out attacks against its territory.

Macron reinforced the need to defend the country from the Russian army. “To be a nationalist in these times is to see the defeat of Ukraine and the impossibility of peace for a long time in Europe”, declared.

The German Chancellor emphasized the countries’ willingness to contribute more to Ukraine’s defense. “We want to cooperate more closely on security, defense and armament issues”said on X (formerly Twitter).

To date, the policy of Ukraine’s Western allies has been to restrict the use of weapons supplied to Ukrainian territory. The international community is trying to prevent an escalation of the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been pushing for an expansion of this policy to include strikes inside Russia.
