According to data from the General Directorate of Census Statistics in Argentina, the accumulated figure for the last 12 months is 280.9%

The General Directorate of Census Statistics of Argentina released this Friday (June 7, 2024) a report showing that inflation in May in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, was 4.4%. The index represents a reduction of 5.4 percentage points compared to April, when it registered 9.8%. Here is the full report (PDF – 1 MB, in Spanish).

Despite this monthly decrease, accumulated inflation in the first 5 months of the year reached 80.2%, with the variation in the last 12 months being 280.9%.

The report on the Argentine capital noted a slight slowdown in food prices, which increased by 4.8% in May, still above the general average.

In food detail, vegetables, tubers and legumes increased by 24.2%, while milk, dairy products and eggs rose by 4.5%. Bread and cereals and meat and derivatives increased by 3.5% and 2.5%, respectively.

Annually, the food and beverage category recorded an increase of 308.8%, indicating an escalation in prices that more than quadrupled in 12 months.

In addition to food, other sectors also recorded increases:

  • insurance and financial services – 12.6%;
  • information and communication – 7.7%;
  • education – 6.2%; It is
  • alcoholic beverages and tobacco 6%.

On the other hand, the health segment had a nominal reduction of 4.2%. The data is explained by the decision of the Milei administration to reverse the values ​​of monthly health plan fees.
