104 children were victims of Israel’s massive attacks on Lebanon

At least 87 children and 156 women have lost their lives in Lebanon since September 16, the date on which Israel began a series of massive attacks on neighboring territory, declaring war on the Shiite group Hezbollah. During the period, 1,030 people died as a result of aerial bombings and 6,352 were injured, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Israel and Hezbollah have been involved in a growing conflict since attacks on the Gaza Strip began after October 7, 2023.

In a press conference this Saturday (28), Minister Firas Alabiad informed that, considered a period that extends from October 2023, the number of fatalities in Lebanon due to Israeli attacks is increasing. According to Alabiad, since October 1,640 people have died, including 104 children and 194 women, in addition to 8,408 injured.

The most dizzying escalation of the conflict between Jews and Shiites occurred on September 17 and 18, when the Israeli secret service, the Mossad, exploded thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah militants. The devices were used to circumvent Israeli espionage, but were wiretapped in analog form by manufacturers working for the Mossad.

Since then, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have directed large-scale attacks on Lebanese territory, especially in areas inhabited by Shiites. The south of the country, which borders northern Israel, for example, is one of the IDF’s main targets and home to most of Lebanon’s Shiite Muslims.

Areas with a Shiite majority are also in the focus of Israelis, such as the Beca Valley and neighborhoods in the suburbs of the capital, Beirut.

Among the victims of the air offensives are at least two Brazilians. Last Wednesday (25), teenager Ali Kamal Abdallah, aged 15, was killed at home by a bombing in the Beca Valley. “It was an attack. He died working in the family’s small factory,” said his sister, Hanan Abdallah.

Two days earlier, Brazilian teenager Mirna Raef Nasser, 16, from Balneário Camboriú (Santa Catarina), and her father were hit by an air raid in southern Lebanon. In a note, Itamaraty confirmed the girl’s death with “great regret and consternation”.

In his speech at the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva classified the region as the scene of “one of the biggest humanitarian crises in recent history” and stated that Israel transformed the right to defense into a right of revenge.

“What began as terrorist action by fanatics against innocent Israeli civilians has become collective punishment. The right to defense has been transformed into the right to revenge, which prevents the agreement for the release of hostages and the ceasefire”, declared Lula.
