Venezuela’s Armed Forces have maintained a firm stance in defense of the country’s election results. Inflamed by the defeated opposition, the military did not accept the request for intervention, which was classified as a demand for a “coup” against elected president Nicolás Maduro.

In a statement released on Tuesday (6), the Bolivarian National Armed Forces rejected the “desperate” and “seditious” requests made by the opposition, mentioning a publication made by the defeated candidate, Edmundo González, and by the far-right María Corina Machado. In the opposition text, they proclaim González president and ask the military to rise up. The content presents numbers about the election without any support.

For the Venezuelan military, the request made is “offensive”, as it encourages the contingent to disobey the law.

In the end, the Armed Forces ratified their “absolute loyalty to the citizen Nicolás Maduro Moros […] legitimately reelected” and said they support the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice to resolve the electoral dispute. The statement was read by the Minister of Defense, General Vladimir Padrino, who signed the document together with Admiral Remigio Ceballos.
