14 Palestinian organizations were in Beijing for the political unity agreement

The Palestinian Federation of Latin America (FEPAL) expressed its support for the historic agreement between the main Palestinian political forces, including Fatah and Hamas, announced by China, highlighting the positive impact for the resistance and unity of the Palestinian people.

In a surprising geopolitical turn of events, China announced the reconciliation of 14 organizations from different ideological spectrums. The event, which marks the second time this year that Palestinian reconciliation has been discussed in Beijing, culminated in the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity. This document proclaims unity within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the formation of a national unity government.

In a public note, FEPAL made the following considerations:

Interests of the Zionist occupation: The Palestinian division has benefited the Zionist colonial occupation more than Western weapons. The current phase of genocide in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of nearly 50,000 civilians in nine months, including 20,000 children and 12,000 women. The total death toll is estimated to reach 200,000, according to a report in the medical journal The Lancet.

Role of China and BRICS: The agreement was brokered by China, a global power that challenges Western colonial and imperialist hegemony. China, together with Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, forms the BRICS, which promotes a multilateral world where international law guides international relations.

Independence from Western powers: For the first time, the Palestinian question was addressed outside the colonial and imperialist metropolises. China, with no historical involvement in the Nakba or the Palestinian genocide, possesses the moral, ethical and political legitimacy that the West lacks.

Support from Russia and BRICS: The agreement is also the result of the efforts of Russia, which together with China and other BRICS members, opposes the Palestinian genocide in Gaza and advocates a free and sovereign Palestinian state.

Rejection of the West: The Palestinians are turning against the West, their historical tormentor, which has never brokered an honest solution for Palestine. Instead, they are seeking support from the BRICS, which does not supply weapons for the extermination of the Palestinian people.

Favorable international context: The reconciliation comes at a time of global backlash against the Palestinian genocide, from demonstrations of millions in the streets to decisions by the UN Security Council ordering a ceasefire against the wishes of the US, and investigations by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court into crimes committed by Israel.

The reconciliation agreement and the formation of a unity government are seen as crucial steps towards the establishment of a sovereign, secular, democratic and prosperous Palestinian state, governed by the rule of law and the supremacy of human rights.

FEPAL believes that national unity will end the occupation, allow the return of refugees, end Zionist apartheid and ethnic cleansing, and promote the reconstruction of Gaza and all of Palestine.

Palestinian unity in times of genocide and BRICS

23/07/2024

The world was once again surprised by China’s geopolitical role, which yesterday announced reconciliation between Palestinian political forces, from the predominant Fatah, the largest in the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization), and Hamas, to 12 other denominations from different ideological spectrums, almost all of them from the PLO’s historical framework. This is the second time this year that Palestinian reconciliation has been discussed in Beijing, this time with the announcement, at the ceremony that concluded the negotiations today, of the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity, which proclaims unity within the framework of the PLO and the construction of a government of national unity.

We welcome, from this Brazilian-Palestinian diaspora, the irrational end of the political and geographical division of the Palestinian resistance and people and the restoration of national unity, the desire of all Palestinians, with the following considerations:

1. The Palestinian division is only of interest to the Zionist colonial occupation, which benefits more from it than from Western weapons, responsible for the current phase of the Palestinian genocide in Gaza, with almost 50,000 civilians murdered in 9 months, 2.23% of the enclave’s demographics, of which 20,000 are children and 12,000 are women, with the total number of people exterminated potentially reaching 200,000, as recently published in The Lancet.

2. This agreement is constructed, mediated and sealed in China, the new global power that challenges Western colonial, imperialist and genocidal hegemony, and the country that builds, with Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa, the BRICS and a new world, in which multilateralism and International Law govern relations between countries and peoples.

3. Thus, this is the first time that the Palestinian Question has been addressed outside the colonial and imperialist metropolises, as well as outside some Arab countries, which have never had sufficient power and sovereignty to assert themselves as guarantors of agreements.

4. More than that, China is not implicated in the Nakba, nor has it sponsored the Palestinian genocide since 1947, that is, it is a country without its hands stained with Palestinian and Arab blood, which gives it the moral, ethical and political legitimacy that the “West” lacks, the inventor and guarantor of “Israel” and its Apartheid.

5. The agreement reached in Beijing is also the result of the efforts of Russia, which has been represented by Palestinian forces on several occasions and which, alongside China and other BRICS, opposes the Palestinian genocide in Gaza, has called for a ceasefire since October 8 and advocates a free and sovereign Palestinian state.

6. The Palestinians, on the other hand, turn their backs on the “West”, their tormentor, who never honestly mediated a solution for Palestine, but only interfered to benefit “Israel”, and return to their historical path, previously represented by the Non-Aligned Movement, in which the PLO was a major player, and now under the leadership of the BRICS, countries from which the weapons and ammunition that exterminate the Palestinian people do not come.

7. Reconciliation in Beijing takes place when the genocidal lords Biden and Netanyahu meet in Washington, in the midst of an electoral process in which the US chooses as the genocidal lord on duty between the Zionists Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, who seek to maintain the era of genocides, while Palestine will dictate, with its allies, the burial of the genocides and its metropolises.

8. Finally, the context of the Palestinian reconciliation and unity sealed in Beijing is that of the massive reaction of the world against the Palestinian genocide, from the streets with millions to the UN Security Council, which determined a ceasefire against the will of the US and almost admitted Palestine as a full member – the US veto prevented this, passing through the International Court of Justice, which is investigating “Israel” for genocide, and the International Criminal Court, which since 2021 has been investigating Netanyahu and other Israelis for crimes against humanity and which is now analyzing their arrests, bringing both the Israeli regime and the West to justice, something previously unthinkable.

It is in this great historical context that we believe reconciliation and a unity government will occur, with everyone within the PLO, the great Palestinian house, and there will be a sovereign, secular, democratic, prosperous, secure Palestinian state, governed by the rule of law and the supremacy of human rights. Unity will end the occupation, return refugees, put an end to Zionist apartheid and its ethnic cleansing, rebuild Gaza and all of Palestine, and lead to the conviction of those responsible for crimes against humanity, including reparations for all the destruction suffered by the Palestinian people during these 77 years of genocide.
