Fire rages in Northern California forest as heatwave hits; 8 people injured
The forest fires that hit the north of the State of California (USA) has already forced the evacuation of at least 28,000 people since Tuesday (2.Jul.2024). So far, the Oroville fire is 29% contained, and four firefighters have been injured. Here is the full bulletin issued by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Management (PDF – 2 MB).
The incident has already consumed more than 3,789 acres, equivalent to about 1,533 hectares. Destruction of homes and vehicles has been reported. In total, 4,384 structures in the region are threatened.

More than 1,400 firefighters have been mobilized to fight the fire. Fighting the flames is made difficult by the high temperatures that persist in the region.
In Sacramento, the state capital, temperatures are expected to reach 40.5°C to 46.1°C by Sunday (7 July).
