The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) repeated the comparison of Brazil when he took over the government, in 2023, after the departure of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with the Gaza Strip. The territory is controlled by Hamas and at war with Israel. “I don’t know if you follow the Palestinian Gaza Strip on television. I don’t know if you see the destruction that the war is causing there. We find the country like this, without ministries, without employees, with a hole of almost R$300 billion […] The disaster to which this country was subjected will be unforgettable”he said, without mentioning Bolsonaro by name, in São Paulo during an event in which he laid the cornerstone of the campus in the east zone of the capital of São Paulo of Unifesp (Federal University of São Paulo) and the Cidade Tiradentes campus of IFSP (Federal Institute of São Paulo) .
