Without meeting qualification criteria, Kennedy loses chance to face Biden and Trump in a national debate on June 27
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., independent candidate for president of the United States, did not qualify for the presidential debate of CNN, scheduled for June 27th. According to the broadcaster, Kennedy did not meet the necessary criteria by the deadline this Thursday (June 20, 2024). With the exclusion, only US President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will participate.
Kennedy accused the CNN of conspiring with the Biden and Trump campaigns to exclude him and filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, alleging a violation of campaign finance law. CNN denied the allegations.
To qualify for the debate, Kennedy needed to achieve at least 15% support in 4 approved national polls. By the deadline, he had reached this level in just 3 surveys: one from CNNone from Quinnipiac University and one from Marquette University School of Law.
In addition, it was necessary to be officially on the ballot in enough states to obtain 270 votes in the Electoral College. Until this Thursday (June 20), Kennedy was registered at 6, totaling 89 votes in the Electoral College.
