According to the Federal Public Ministry, the group is made up of people from India and the African continent
Around 400 immigrants were stranded at Guarulhos airport (SP) on Wednesday (June 12, 2024) after failures on the PF (Federal Police) Sisconare platform. The system is responsible for formalizing asylum requests in Brazil. According to the MPF (Federal Public Ministry), the group is made up of Indians and African citizens.
This Thursday morning (June 13), the group decreased to 291 people, according to the PF and the MJ-SP (Ministry of Justice and Public Security). The organizations recognized the platform’s functionality problems and stated that the number of immigrants is changing, due to the flow of arrivals and departures.
“The MJ-SP and the PF are committed to accelerating and maximizing the processing capacity of requests, in compliance with the rules related to refuge and respect for human rights”, they stated in a joint note.
According to the ministry, the instability of the tool is due to “updates and improvements made to other Pasta electronic systems”.
IMMIGRANTS
According to the MPF, the stranded immigrants have arrived in recent days on different flights, but there is no confirmation on the reasons for the groups’ arrival.
The body called an emergency meeting on the topic for this 5th (June 13). Participating in the meeting are representatives of Conare (National Committee for Refugees), the Federal Police, UNHCR (UN Agency for Refugees), the concessionaire GRU Airport and Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency).
“The priority is to define the necessary measures to complete asylum requests as quickly as possible. Immigrants are under precarious conditions at the airport and need immigration authorities to urgently adopt solutions”, highlighted Public Prosecutor Guilherme Rocha Göpfert.
