Ingredients
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (or 1 envelope)
1 1/3 cups warm water (approximately 110°F or 45°C)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus a little more for dusting)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to help activate the yeast)
Directions
- In a small bowl, mix the warm water with the yeast and sugar (if using). Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture starts to get foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast and water mixture. Add the olive oil.
- Stir the mixture until a dough begins to form. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and begin kneading for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough doubles in size.
- After the resting time, preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F) and place a baking tray inside to heat.
- Divide the dough into two parts (or more, depending on the size of your desired pizza) and stretch each part on a floured surface, forming pizza discs.
- Transfer pizza discs to hot baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. Add desired ingredients on top of the dough.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the ingredients are cooked through.
- Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, cut and serve.
