According to the country’s Foreign Affairs advisor, Ophir Falk, the proposal presented by the US is flawed and needs adjustments
The Israeli government has accepted the general terms of a peace agreement proposed by United States President Joe Biden to stop the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, said the country’s Foreign Affairs advisor, Ophir Falk. Despite this, according to Falk, the plan is flawed and needs adjustments.
“We really want to free the hostages, all the hostages, and that’s why we accept”, said the advisor in an interview with the British newspaper Sunday Times. “Many details need to be fine-tuned, and nothing has changed regarding Israeli demands that the hostages be released and that Hamas must be destroyed as a genocidal terrorist organization,” Falk announced.
On Friday (May 31), Biden presented a proposal for a ceasefire “lasting” in the region (read more below). Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the next day that the war will continue until Hamas is destroyed.
In the same vein, the Foreign Relations advisor declared that “there will be no permanent ceasefire until all of Israel’s objectives are achieved”.
PROPOSAL
Biden presented a proposal to end the 8-month conflict in the Gaza Strip. The plan, divided into 3 phases, includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces, an immediate ceasefire and the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Next, the release of all remaining hostages and the reconstruction of Gaza are demanded.
In a statement on Friday (May 31), the North American president stated that Hamas no longer has the capacity to carry out attacks like the one on October 7th. “It’s time for this war to end”, said Biden. “At this point, Hamas is no longer capable of carrying out another similar attack”.
