Senator Sergio Moro says that the “friendly” relations between the government and the extremist group “were useless”; Michel Nisenbaum was found on Thursday (May 23)
Congressmen who oppose the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) held the PT member responsible when mourning the death of Michel Nisenbaum, aged 59. According to the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), the Brazilian was killed during the extremist group’s offensive on Israel on October 7, 2023 and his body was taken to the Gaza Strip.
On May 12, Nisenbaum’s family told the Poder360 that she was disappointed with the president and that he “Did not help” in the rescue. The Brazilian’s sister and daughter met Lula in December 2023. According to the family, he said he would seek information about Nisenbaum and try to negotiate his release. After 5 months, they said they were never contacted by the PT member or the embassy again.
“The Lula government did not do enough. The friendly relations between the two and the hostility towards Israel served no purpose.”declared Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) this Friday (May 24, 2024) on his profile on X (formerly Twitter).
Federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP) also criticized the PT administration: “This is the 4th Brazilian killed by Hamas terrorists. How long will the Lula government continue to pretend this didn’t happen? How long are you going to defend Hamas?”
Michel was 59 years old, born in Niterói (RJ) and had lived near Gaza for 40 years. He was kidnapped on the morning of October 7, when he went to a military post to meet family. A Hamas militant answered his phone when his family called. His car was found burned and his computer was rescued in Gaza.
The PT (Workers’ Party) does not consider Hamas a terrorist group. When Lula, on a trip to Africa, compared the action of the State of Israel in the war in Gaza to the actions of the Nazis against Jews in the Second World War, the group published a note in support of the PT member.
