According to “Reuters”, an official stated that information from the accident site is “very worrying”
An Iranian official, on condition of anonymity, told the news agency Reuters that the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian are “at risk” after the crash of a helicopter in which authorities were traveling this Sunday (May 19, 2024).
The aircraft was passing through the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, near the city of Jolfa, on the border between Iran and Azerbaijan, when it had to make a forced landing due to bad weather conditions, such as rain and strong winds.
“We are still hopeful, but the information from the accident site is very worrying”the source told the agency.
Iran’s Interior Minister Ahmaad Vahidi said several rescue groups were moving toward the crash. However, due to fog and heavy rain, it may take time to reach the area.
“There were contacts with companions [do presidente]but taking into account that the area is mountainous and it is difficult to establish contacts, we hope that the rescue teams arrive at the scene of the incident sooner and provide us with more information”declared Vahidi.
Iran’s state news agency, Irna, published a video on X (formerly Twitter) of the area where the president’s helicopter crashed. Fog can be seen in the footage.
