Brazilian spending on international travel totaled US$3.38 billion in the 1st quarter of 2024. This was the highest value for the period since 2019, when it was US$4.2 billion. The BC (Central Bank) released the data this Thursday (May 2, 2024) in the External Sector Statistics report. Here is the full document (PDF – 131 kB).
Brazilians’ expenses abroad have not recovered to pre-covid-19 pandemic levels. Furthermore, the tourism dollar in 2019 was below R$4.50.
In March, Brazilians spent US$1.05 billion on international travel, a drop of 6.2% compared to the same month in 2023.
FOREIGNERS
Foreigners spent US$2.07 billion in Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2024. This amount is the highest recorded in the country since the beginning of the historical series, which began in 1995. It rose 21.3% compared to 2023.
