Ingredients
Eggs (desired quantity)
Water
Salt (optional)
Directions
- Use fresh eggs for best results.
- Remove the eggs from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 10-15 minutes. This helps prevent the eggs from cracking during cooking.
- Fill a large pan with enough water to cover the eggs. Add a pinch of salt if desired. Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Using a spoon or tongs, gently place the eggs into the boiling water. Be sure to add the eggs carefully to avoid breaking them.
- Reduce the heat to medium and let the eggs cook for about 9 to 12 minutes, depending on the size of the eggs and desired consistency (9 minutes for softer yolks and 12 minutes for firmer yolks).
- After the desired cooking time, use a slotted spoon to remove the eggs from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water or cold running water. This helps stop the cooking process and makes removing the skins easier.
- Once cooled, peel the eggs. Lightly tap each end of the egg against a hard surface and gently roll to break the shell. Then, peel the eggs under running water to make it easier to remove the shell.
- Serve hard-boiled eggs however you like, whether in salads, sandwiches or as a healthy snack. If you are not going to consume them immediately, store them in the refrigerator.
