Several countries criticized the attack carried out by the USA and the United Kingdom against targets of the Houthi rebel group in Yemen that took place on Thursday night (11). The main reactions came from countries considered Washington’s rivals in the geopolitical field. Russia accused the US of “distorting” UN Security Council resolutions and called for an urgent meeting of the body to discuss the action.
“The US attacks in Yemen are a new example of the Anglo-Saxons’ distortion of UN Security Council resolutions and a total disregard for international law, in an escalation in the region to achieve their destructive objectives” , said Maria Zakharova, representative of Russian diplomacy.
China said it was concerned about the escalation of tension in the Middle East and recalled that the Red Sea, a region where attacks have been taking place, “is an important trade and energy route.”

“China expects coherence from all parties involved to play a constructive and responsible role in maintaining security in the region,” said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Iran, the country geographically closest to the target of Thursday’s US aggression, “strongly” condemned the act and classified it as “an infringement of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“[Os ataques] are in line with the US and UK’s full support over the past hundred days for the war crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip,” said Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

According to the official, “while the Zionist regime continues its attacks and war crimes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the US and England, by expanding the scope of their support for the Zionist regime, divert the attention of the people of the world from the crimes of this false regime, criminal and aggressor”.
Strategic targets of the Yemeni rebel group Houthis were attacked by aerial bombings on Thursday night. The American and British action came in reprisal against Houthi operations in the Red Sea. The group has been calling for attacks on Israeli-flagged vessels in support of Palestine and against Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
