This Tuesday (26/12) the number of deaths in the Israeli attack on the Maghazi refugee camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip, rose to 106. The information is from the news agency Associated Presswhich cites records from Al-Aqsa hospital, near the bombing site.
A previous report released by the Ministry of Health in Gaza, an enclave controlled by the Hamas group, mentioned at least 70 victims.
It is one of the deadliest attacks since the start of the Israeli operation in Palestinian territory following the Hamas offensive on October 7, which left 1,200 dead.
Since then, Israeli bombings in Gaza have claimed more than 20,000 lives, according to local authorities.
The Israeli army said it had begun a “verification” into the attack on the refugee camp and called on people in central Gaza to “move away from combat zones”, although the UN said there was no longer a safe place in the enclave.
In the south of the territory, in Khan Younis, Israeli artillery shells hit the upper floors of the local Red Crescent headquarters, which housed displaced people from other regions.
Lula defends the creation of a Palestinian state
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva participated on Monday (25/12) in a Christmas lunch with repatriates from the Gaza Strip. During the meeting, the president defended the creation of a Palestinian state and stated that “it is not humanly possible to accept what is happening in the Gaza Strip.”
“The death of so many women and so many children, the destruction of all the heritage that was built by the Palestinian people, is not possible,” said Lula. “I have long advocated the creation of a Palestinian state. And we continue fighting at the UN so that a Palestinian state can be built and that the people can live in peace again,” she added.
In his speech, the president stated that Brazilian diplomacy will continue talking to Israeli diplomacy to allow the removal of civilians from the Gaza Strip.
