Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 slices of Italian bread or baguette

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

  • 4 to 5 ripe tomatoes

  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. 
    While the oven is heating, you can start preparing the ingredients.
  • Cut the tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a bowl. 
    Add the chopped basil leaves, olive oil, and season with salt and pepper to taste. 
    Mix well and set aside.
  • Cut the bread into slices about 1.5 cm thick. 
    You can toast the slices of bread in the oven for a few minutes, turning them halfway through, or in a hot frying pan with a little olive oil until they are golden and crispy.
  • While the bread is hot, rub the garlic on the bread slices. 
    This will give the bread a mild garlic flavor.
  • Place the tomato and basil mixture over the bread slices. 
    If you wish, you can finish with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Serve immediately as an appetizer or starter.
