4 to 6 slices of Italian bread or baguette
2 garlic cloves
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 to 5 ripe tomatoes
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
Salt and black pepper to taste
Grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.Â
While the oven is heating, you can start preparing the ingredients. - Cut the tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a bowl.Â
Add the chopped basil leaves, olive oil, and season with salt and pepper to taste.Â
Mix well and set aside. - Cut the bread into slices about 1.5 cm thick.Â
You can toast the slices of bread in the oven for a few minutes, turning them halfway through, or in a hot frying pan with a little olive oil until they are golden and crispy. - While the bread is hot, rub the garlic on the bread slices.Â
This will give the bread a mild garlic flavor. - Place the tomato and basil mixture over the bread slices.Â
If you wish, you can finish with grated Parmesan cheese on top. - Serve immediately as an appetizer or starter.
