President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) won the presidential elections in Portugal this Sunday (4), according to official data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The candidate for re-election received 26,401 votes.

His main opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), had 19,412 valid votes and was surpassed by the PT member by a difference of 6,989 votes. Other candidates received, nationally, 4,521.

Lula won in the capital, Lisbon, where he received 14,948 votes, and Flávio, 10,548. In Porto, the second largest Portuguese city, the president obtained 10,356 votes against 7,559 for the Bolsonarista. Only in Faro did Lula lose, as the far-right candidate had 1,305 against 1,097.

Other results

The president also received the majority of votes in polling stations in New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

In New Zealand, Lula obtained 73.4% of the valid votes and Flávio Bolsonaro, 15.8%. In South Korea, the PT member received 123 votes (56.9%) and Bolsonaro, 72 (33.3%), in a total of 216 nominal votes; the other eight candidates split the remainder.

In Australia, with 26 of the 29 sections counted, Lula registered 5,283 votes (64.9%) and Bolsonaro, 2,022 (24.8%).

In Singapore, Lula obtained 190 votes (54.6%) and Bolsonaro, 92 (26.4%), in a total of 348 nominal votes. In Malaysia, there were 44 votes for Lula (53.7%) and 27 for Bolsonaro (32.9%), for a total of 83.

In relation to the first round of 2022, when he competed against Jair Bolsonaro, Lula increased the margin in New Zealand, going from 70.3% to 73.4%.

In South Korea, where, in 2022, Lula had 64.3% and Jair Bolsonaro, 35.7%, the 2026 result showed Lula with 56.9% and Flávio Bolsonaro with 33.3%. The drop in the PT’s percentage reflects the greater fractionation of the vote, as eight candidates obtained votes in the South Korean section, compared to two in 2022.

So far, according to unofficial counts released by the press, Lula has won in Germany, Angola, Saudi Arabia, China, South Korea, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Egypt, Estonia, France, Finland, Hungary, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Palestine, Kenya, Romania, Singapore, Syria, Sweden, Switzerland, Czechia, Turkey.

According to the same ballot counts, Flávio Bolsonaro won in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Greece, Israel, Japan, Mozambique, Thailand and Taiwan.
