
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called US leader Donald Trump this Friday (21). According to sources from the Planalto Palace heard by the Brazil in factthe conversation took place in a “cordial tone” and dealt with topics such as tariffs imposed on Brazilian products, the fight against organized crime and global conflicts.
“Noting that tariffs negatively affect both Brazil and the United States, [Lula] stated that remaining at the negotiation table is the best option for both countries”, says the official statement about the call.
“Regarding the recent imposition of new tariffs on Brazil as a result of investigations conducted by the Office of the United States Trade Representative, President Lula emphasized that the allegations on which the measure was based (deforestation, preferential agreements, intellectual property, combating corruption, Pix, ethanol and imports of products using forced labor) are unfounded”, adds the text.
According to the note, the two presidents exchanged views on the main global conflicts, especially the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
