Ukraine carried out one of the biggest drone attacks on Russia in recent years in the early hours of Tuesday (18). The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian air defense forces shot down more than 1,600 drones in 24 hours, as well as ten guided bombs and two Himars rockets.

Ukraine neither confirmed nor denied the Russian allegation. The previous record for drones shot down was set during the attack on Russia on August 16. On that occasion, the Russians claimed to have shot down 1,478 drones in 24 hours. In the Rostov region, five people died and one resident was injured.

Moscow Mayor Serguei Sobyanin reported that 620 Ukrainian drones had been flying over the region since Monday night (17). According to him, 180 drones were destroyed.

After this information was released, the mayor announced that another 17 drones flying over Moscow were shot down. Sobyanin did not report the consequences of the attack.

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, reported that more than 150 drones were shot down over the region overnight and this morning. A ten-year-old girl was injured in the Ramensky district when a drone crashed into a private residence.

Vorobyov specified that the most serious consequences of the attack were recorded in the Pavlovsky Posad district. A private residence was set on fire in the village of Kuznetsy, and the roof of an apartment building caught fire. According to local authorities, more than 5 thousand people and 46 socially important facilities in the district were left without power.

In the Moscow metropolitan region, a warehouse belonging to the retail company Wildberries was hit during the night attack, causing a fire.

As a result of this morning’s attack, Rosaviatsiya (Russian Aviation Agency) imposed temporary restrictions on landings and takeoffs at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo airports in Moscow.

Russia, in turn, also carried out an intense missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov, leaving at least ten people dead and 18 injured, according to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Russian strike hit a busy intersection in the city. According to him, a store, a post office and residential buildings were damaged.
