Even with signs of cooperation from Iran, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, once again threatened the country, in addition to also verbally targeting Democrats and the American left.
This Sunday (22), he stated, via social media: “Now, with the death of Iran, the biggest enemy the United States has is the radical left, highly incompetent, the Democratic Party.” The message is seen as a speech aimed directly at its internal supporters as the US parliamentary elections approach.
Also this Sunday, the president of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, declared, also on social media, that the country could “irreversibly destroy” critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the Middle East if its plants were attacked. The speech occurred after a new threat from Donald Trump and an attack on the Natanz nuclear plant, on Saturday (21).

“Immediately following the attack on power plants and infrastructure in our country, vital infrastructure — including energy and oil — across the region will be considered legitimate targets and will be irreversibly destroyed, and the price of oil will increase for a long period,” Qalibaf said. Such signaling was also made by the Iranian Armed Forces.
Shortly before, Trump had said, also on the networks, in bold letters: “If Iran does not COMPLETELY OPEN, WITHOUT THREATS, the Strait of Hormuz within 48 HOURS from this very moment, the United States of America will attack and obliterate several of its POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST OF THEM! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The statement was made even after Iran had signaled the possibility of cooperation in relation to the Strait of Hormuz. “Diplomacy remains Iran’s priority. However, a complete halt to aggression as well as mutual trust are even more important,” said Ali Mousavi, Iran’s representative at the UN maritime agency.
Also this Sunday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard stated, in a statement published by local state networks, that “an enemy F-15 fighter jet was hit after being detected in the skies over the south of the country, near the island of Hormuz, by air defense systems. Investigations into the aircraft’s fate continue.” The whereabouts and country to which the fighter jet belongs are still unknown.
