The 13 Brazilians “kidnapped in international waters” by Israel were released on Tuesday (7). According to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), after negotiations conducted by the Brazilian government, the group that was in the Global Sumud flotilha was led to the Jordan border, where they were received by diplomats from Brazilian embassies in Tel Aviv and Amman.

Among the Brazilians who were illegally arrested six days ago, since the flotilla was in international waters, there are federal deputy Luizianne Lins (PT-CE) and activist Thiago Ávila, who was also arrested by Israel while participating in the Freedom Flotilha. At the time, the activists who brought humanitarian aid to Gaza were approached and treated violently and threateningly, in a situation analogous to torture.

In this new humanitarian action, the situation repeated again. Reports report that the arrested activists suffered violence and had to deal with degrading conditions and physical abuse.

The other loose Brazilians, precisely on the date of two exact years of war, are: Bruno Gilga, Lisiane Proença, Magno Costa (manager of the USP Workers Union), Mariana Conti (Campinas Councilwoman by PSOL-SP), Ariadne Telles, Mansur Peixoto, Gabriele Tolotti (PSOL-RS President), Mohamad El Kadri, Lucas Gusmão, João Aguiar and Miguel Castro.

Before them, the Argentine-Brazilian Nicolás Calabrese had already been released. He arrived in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) on Monday (6), when he revealed the abuse and compared the treatment dismissed by the Israelis to terrorism.

Also on Monday, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was released from 170 other people of different nationalities.

As the Brazilian government pointed out, it is essential that the international community demands from Israel the end of the blockage that prevents the entry of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

“The Global Sumud flotilha, integrated by more than 40 vessels and 420 activists of different nationalities, was peaceful and tried to bring humanitarian aid to the Gaza range when he was intercepted in international waters by Israel’s state military forces. Brazil calls for Israel to cessation of the blockade to Gaza, because it was a serious violation of international human law,” said the humanitarian law, ”said Itamaraty.
