Petista said he needed “a lot of resources”; United Kingdom announced donation of BRL 500 million to the Amazon Fund

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Saturday (6.May.2023), during a conversation with the press, in London, that he heard from King Charles 3rd, crowned this morning, a request for Brazil to take care of the Forest Amazon.

“The first thing the king told me was to take care of the Amazon”said Lula. “And I said: ‘I need help, it’s not just our will. I need help and lots of resources’”completed.

On Friday (May 5), the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, announced that the country will invest in the Amazon Fund. The value will be 80 million pounds (about R$ 500 million). The prime minister stated that the United Kingdom’s entry into the fund is a recognition of President Lula’s work and leadership in the area of ​​environmental preservation.

During a conversation with the press this Saturday, Lula also declared that he invited Sunak to visit Brazil in the coming months.

The president said that, in August, there will be the 1st meeting of leaders of Amazonian countries in South America. The purpose, according to him, is to discuss a common agenda for the preservation of the forest.

“We need to make a common decision. Because it’s no use for Brazil to preserve only ours, which we are going to preserve. We will fulfill the promise we made to end deforestation by 2030. This is a matter of honor”said Lula.
