President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva travels to Tokyo, Japan, on the next 24-27, and Hanoi, in Vietnam, on 27-29. The main objective is to strengthen trade relations and technical cooperation with both countries.

In Japan, Lula will negotiate the opening of markets for beef and pork, as well as dealing with a possible commercial agreement of that country with Mercosur.

According to Itamaraty, cooperation in Science, Technology & Innovation is another priority of the bilateral agenda.

Among the most promising areas are information and communications technologies, aerospace technology, robotics, advanced materials, medical sciences and health and renewable energy.

Also noteworthy are broad opportunities in the area of ​​decarbonization, such as the use of ethanol for the production of aviation and biomass fuel for electricity generation.

“Japan is a great economy, our most traditional partner in Asia and is the ninth source of foreign investments in Brazil, with a stock of US $ 35 billion in the last three years,” says Ambassador Eduardo Saboia, Secretary of Asia and Pacific Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He says the goal is to give impetus to priority sectors, as well as new sectors in the relationship.

“We are based on this good relationship of human, economic bonds, but we want to move forward. One of our expectations is the opening of the Japanese market for Brazilian products, especially beef and pork fresh, ”says the ambassador.

In 2024, Brazil and Japan registered commercial exchange of US $ 11 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of US $ 146.8 million.

Brazil exports poultry meat (fresh or frozen), aluminum, pork, cellulose, non -roasted coffee and iron ore, among other products.

The imports of Brazil are composed by parts and accessories of automotive vehicles, instruments and measuring devices, piston engines and other products from the transformation industry.

Vietnam

Itamaraty says that Vietnam has been consolidated as the fifth global destination for Brazilian agribusiness exports and stands out as one of the world’s leading producers of coffee, rice and electronic products, sectors in which there is the potential to expand bilateral cooperation.

“It is the second country in the Asian Southeast to form strategic partner in Brazil. We are negotiating an action plan to implement this partnership and the idea is that this action plan will be adopted during the visit, ”explains Ambassador Saboia.

“The visit will be intended to define joint actions and initiatives to implement the strategic partnership between the two countries, announced on November 17, 2024, when President Lula and Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chin gathered on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro,” says a folder note.

In 2024, Brazil and Vietnam registered commercial exchange of US $ 7.7 billion, with a Brazilian surplus of US $ 415 million. “Trade went from $ 500 million to nearly $ 8 billion. And the idea is to reach a goal of $ 15 billion by 2025, ”says the ambassador.
