The escalation of violence promoted by Israel in Lebanon has left yet another innocent victim. This time, a Brazilian baby around 1 year old, identified as Fátima Abbas, was killed in a missile attack by Israeli military forces, in Hadeth, a suburb of Beirut. She is the third Brazilian victim of these attacks, which began at the end of September.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack took place last Saturday (2), and the child succumbed to his injuries.
Through a note from the MRE, the Brazilian government expressed condolences and solidarity with the victim’s family, and reiterated its condemnation, “in the strongest terms, to the continuous and unjustified Israeli air attacks against civilian areas in Lebanon”.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed the appeal “to the parties involved to immediately cease hostilities”.

The statement also highlights that the “conflict in Lebanon has already resulted in the confirmed death of a total of three Brazilians, all minors and all victims of Israeli attacks”. In addition to baby Fátima, teenagers Mirna Raef Nasser, aged 16, and Ali Kamal Abdallah, aged 15, were victims of bombings.
The government has worked, together with local authorities, to bring Brazilians who wish to leave conflict areas back to the country. Since the beginning of October, 2,072 Brazilians have been repatriated. The tenth flight of the mission will land in Brazil this Tuesday (5).
Under the argument of defense against the Lebanese Hezbollah group — an ally of Hamas, which operates in Palestine — Israel has been promoting attacks on the border between the two countries since the beginning of the current war in the Gaza Strip. In Lebanon alone, the number of civilians killed in the conflict exceeds 2,800 people.
