The G20 summit, between November 18th and 19th, will bring together several world leaders in Rio de Janeiro. Among them will be the President of China, Xi Jinping. The information was confirmed by Chinese spokesperson Hua Chunying and the Brazilian government.

However, according to Chunying, the Chinese leader’s visit should be longer than the G20 period. Thus, Xi will be on Brazilian soil between November 17th and 21st. He accepted an invitation from President Lula for a state visit to the federal capital.

In this way, he will be received at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília, on the 20th. In the press call made by the Brazilian government, it is stated: “The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will receive, at the Palácio da Alvorada, the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, on November 20th. The meeting will be held from 10 am (Brasília time). The two leaders will address the relationship bilateral.”

The debate and proximity between countries occurs at a crucial moment in geopolitics. With Trump’s victory in the United States, there is the possibility of worsening relations between his country and the Chinese.

China is Brazil’s main trading partner and the USA is the second. With Trump’s promise to tighten trade relations with greater taxation on foreign products, some commercial sectors may now have to look for better alternatives for their products in other parts of the world.

On Thursday (7), the President of the United States, Joe Biden, also confirmed his presence at the G20. In a conversation on the phone with Lula, he also spoke about his country’s membership in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.

Before the G20, both presidents (USA and China) are expected to attend the Apec (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) forum in Peru, between November 13th and 17th.
