The United States violated international law on Monday (2) and confiscated the official plane of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The Venezuelan government classified the confiscation of the aircraft as “piracy.”
The seizure of the Dassault Falcon 900ex aircraft took place in the Dominican Republic, in a US operation with the collaboration of the Dominican government, according to American authorities.
“The United States has demonstrated that it uses its economic and military power to intimidate and pressure states like the Dominican Republic, so that they serve as accomplices in its criminal acts,” Caracas said in a statement.
Venezuela also accused the United States of disregarding international law, creating rules that serve its own interests and the “law of the strongest.”
“Venezuela denounces before the international community that once again the authorities of the United States of America, in a repeated criminal practice that cannot be described as anything other than piracy, illegally confiscated an aircraft that was being used by the President of the Republic,” the text noted.
“This action reveals that no State and no constitutional government is safe from illegal actions that do not recognize international law.”
