United States President Donald Trump continues to persecute foreign students. According to the US State Department, more than 6,000 visas of students were revoked under the pretext of combating illegal immigration.

The main allegation presented is that much exceeded the permanent period. However, there are justifications that subjectively involve support for terrorism. There are also accusations of theft, aggression and drunkenness behind the wheel.

Anonymously, a government official passed on to the US press these notes. He estimates that two thirds of the 6,000 visas revoked were for breaking the law.

Persecution

The far right of the United States, which falsely says preaching freedom, has increasingly repressed any manifestation that contests the aggressive policy adopted by Trump.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has headed this repression regarding the revocation of the visas. The persecution happens mainly against students who denounce US support to Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Rubio has removed the visa from any foreign student who critically manifests himself on Israeli attacks. Even with green card (Legal permanent resident in the US) can be deported, which has generated apprehension and insecurity even in those who made their lives in the country.

The offensive against students coupled with ICE beats, the immigration police, aim to create an environment of repression to silence government critics through fear. The reason given by the secretary is to attribute to any opposition the label of “threat” to the country’s foreign policy.

The dictatorial sanha that has grown in the US also involves monitoring student activities, even on social networks, as a way to identify their political positions and, consequently, restrict permanence in the “land of freedom”.

Repression of immigrants

As soon as he assumed his current term, Trump signed an executive order that increased the security, surveillance and screening procedures of foreigners who request the entry in the US and another measure to accelerate the removal of immigrants in irregular documentary situation.

Subsequently, in June, he expanded the offensive focused on students from other countries by imposing the revocation of visas from Harvard University students and suspending enrollment of new students.

Students of the institution have been consistently positioned against the war crimes committed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with American consent.

There are about 6,800 international students in Harvard, representing more than a quarter of enrollment in 2025.

The US court has guaranteed the continuity of foreign enrollment in Harvard, contrary to the government, which, to maintain its persecutory impetus, has made it difficult to grant visas with new demands and verification of social networks by consulates around the world.

With these uncertainties, the future of many students is uncertain. Just as many immigrants have not left the US for fear of being prevented from returning, much of which intended to go to the country has changed the route and sought alternatives.

Hostility against universities, however, goes further. The White House also removed tax exemption and started a series of transfers freezes to the financing of institutions such as Yale, Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, among others. Nevertheless, the court determined that part of the benefits remain, while others remain suspended, a situation that has generated insecurity in the education sector.

The financial strangulation promoted by Trump has as its purpose the imposition of its ideology in education, with orders that involve interference on the faculty, the direction of research and, of course, in the admission of students.

US analysts have warned of the danger of this Washington policy for research and development. The leadership position in many technologies won by the US is based on the historic attraction of talents that the country has established since the 1940s, during World War II.

With the expulsion of these “brains” that support the science of “Uncle Sam”, many countries have taken the opportunity to repact these talents. An example of this happens with the program “Knowledge Brazil”, which aims to reverse the Brazilian scientific diaspora – not only for the US – through 599 projects approved with a contribution of $ 604 million.
