United States President Donald Trump intensified on Wednesday (22) the climate of global tension by setting a hundred days for the White House Keith Kellogg special envoy ending the war in Ukraine.
The measure, accompanied by threats of “unprecedented” sanctions against Moscow, is seen as a potential destabilizing of the region by making diplomatic solutions difficult.
Trump has promised to impose “high levels of rates, rates and sanctions” against any Russian goods exported to the US and other countries if Moscow does not accept negotiating under their conditions. The initiative was announced in its social truth network, in a speech marked by the Belic rhetoric that has characterized the new term of the Republican President.
“I will do Russia a big favor whose economy is failing, and President Putin. Hit now and stop with this ridiculous war! It will only get worse, ”said the Republican, also warning that” we can do it the easy way or the difficult way. “
Russian Foreign Deputy Minister Sergei Ryabkov replied on Wednesday saying that Moscow sees a “small window of opportunity” to negotiate agreements with Trump, although he did not specifically mention the Ukrainian issue.
“We cannot say anything today about the degree of negotiation capacity of the new government, but still, compared to the lack of hope in all aspects of the chief of the previous White House, there is a window of opportunity today, although small,” Ryabkov declared a speech at the Institute of American and Canadian Studies in Moscow.
“Therefore it is important to understand with what and with whom we will have to deal with, what is the best way to build relationships with Washington, what is the best way to maximize opportunities and minimize risks,” he added.
The Russian reaction indicates that US pressure is not considered adequate to seek peace.
In a recent speech, Putin emphasized that any peace agreement needs to ensure a long -term solution based on respecting the needs of the people of the region. Despite the economic sanctions in force, Russia continues to resist attempts at isolation promoted by Washington and his allies.
European leaders have also expressed concern about the developments of the new US policy. Many fear that Trump’s posture results in significant territorial losses for Ukraine or to reduce military support to Kiev. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, called for 200,000 peacekeepers to ensure the implementation of any ceasefire, while analysts warn that such a measure would be unfeasible in a context of military climbing.
Since his election campaign, Trump has promised to quickly end the war in Ukraine, but his proposals have been criticized for simplifying a complex conflict with deep historical and geopolitical roots. Instead of seeking multilateral solutions, the US president seems to prioritize a speech that pleases his electoral base while reinforcing the perception that the US continues to operate as “police of the world.”
In parallel, China, Russia’s largest commercial partner, has consolidated its strategic relationship with Moscow, ignoring the threats of American sanctions. Strengthening this alliance puts Trump’s ability to isolate Russia economically and raises questions about the impact of its foreign policy on the emerging multipolar order.
Trump not only aggravates global instability, but also compromises peace efforts that require cooperation between various powers. The escalation of unilateral threats and sanctions only reinforces the role of Moscow as an important counterweight to the imperialist ambitions of Washington.
