Putin calls Lula and says that meeting with Trump in Alaska was positive

President Lula received a call from Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (18). According to the government, the conversation lasted 30 minutes and in it the Russian agent reported the meeting with US President Donald Trump, Alaska (USA), last Friday (15).

The evaluation passed by Putin is that the meeting was positive. Also according to the Planalto Palace, he recognized the efforts of Brazil and China in the group of Friends of Peace, a joint initiative that aims to work for conflict resolution, such as war with the Ukrainians.

On social networks, Lula commented: “I thanked the president’s call and reaffirmed Brazil’s support to all the efforts that lead to a peaceful solution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”

The Russian embassy in Brazil confirmed the information and highlighted “The mutual interest in the development of Russian-Brazilian dialogue, as well as in the close cooperation within the BRICS.”

Calls

On the 9th, the leaders of Brazil and Russia also talked by phone. On the occasion, they talked about the US intermediation in the war and the results of the BRICS summit, held in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) in July.

Lula’s sequence of dialogues with Putin reveals the importance and recognition of Brazilian role in international discussions. Even with Trump by manipulating actions for the benefit of his interests, Putin maintains the approach to Brazil, China and India, which are essential countries to counteract US measures through BRICS, while being the largest targets of sanctions in the US tariff.

Ukraine

On Monday (18), Trump gathers in the White House the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski, and other European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron (France), Keir Stmerer (United Kingdom), Friedrich Merz (Germany), Ursula von der Leyen (European Commission).

The expectation is for advances for a negotiated peace between the parties, considering what was treated, on Friday, with Putin, who wants the recognition of the annexation of the territories already occupied to end the conflict.
