Ingredients

  • 1 kg of potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices

  • 2 cups of grated Gruyère cheese or cheese

  • 1 cup of cream

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Nutmeg to taste (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • Cook the potato slices in salted water until they are slightly soft but still firm. Drain and reserve.
  • In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until aromatic.
  • Add the cream and milk to the pan. Heat until it starts to boil, but do not let it boil completely.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. The nutmeg is optional but adds an extra delicious flavor.
  • In a greased baking dish, make a layer of potato slices. Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with grated cheese. Repeat layers until all potatoes are on the plate.
  • Finish with a layer of cheese on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and the cheese is gratin.
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
