Ingredients
1 kg of potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices
2 cups of grated Gruyère cheese or cheese
1 cup of cream
1 cup of milk
2 garlic cloves, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Nutmeg to taste (optional)
2 tablespoons of butter
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C.
- Cook the potato slices in salted water until they are slightly soft but still firm. Drain and reserve.
- In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until aromatic.
- Add the cream and milk to the pan. Heat until it starts to boil, but do not let it boil completely.
- Season the mixture with salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste. The nutmeg is optional but adds an extra delicious flavor.
- In a greased baking dish, make a layer of potato slices. Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes and sprinkle with grated cheese. Repeat layers until all potatoes are on the plate.
- Finish with a layer of cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and the cheese is gratin.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
