In a ceremony marked by emotion, historical symbolism and reaffirmation of international ties, the Prime Minister of the Vietnam Socialist Republic, Pham Minh Chinh, accompanied by his wife and entourage, deposited flowers on the plaque in honor of President Ho Chi Minh, located in Rio de Janeiro. The solemn act occurred on the occasion of the 135th birthday of the Vietnamese revolutionary leader and was attended by Brazilian authorities and representatives of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), highlighting the historical friendship between the peoples and parties of the two nations.

The ceremony was packed by revolutionary music “as if Uncle Ho were with us on the cheerful day of victory”, while local residents stirred flags from Vietnam and Brazil. Among those present were the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and president of the Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association, Inácio Arruda; Deputy Secretary of International Relations of the Rio de Janeiro State Government, Bruno Costa; besides representatives of the City Hall and communist militants of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

One of the most striking moments of the event was the delivery of symbolic gifts to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh by members of the Jacarepaguá PCdoB District Committee. The president of the district, Rafael Gonçalves, personally handed a flag of the Communist Party of Brazil and a cap with his insignia, as an expression of solidarity and admiration to the Vietnamese people, the Communist Party of Vietnam and the legacy of Ho Chi Minh. The objects were received with emotion by the Vietnamese entourage, which recognized the gesture as a reaffirmation of the historical ties of camaraderie.

In his speech, Chinh thanked the affection of the Brazilian people and highlighted the value of friendship between the two countries. “Ho Chi Minh was a symbol of the struggle for independence of peoples. Knowing that his memory is revered here, in this brother country, is proof that the internationalist and supportive spirit of the revolution lives,” he said. He also stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and promoting international cooperation for peace, development and social justice.

The visit to the commemorative plaque is part of the official agenda of the Vietnamese Prime Minister in Brazil, which participated in the expanded summit of BRICS 2025, of which Vietnam is the tenth partner country. In addition to multilateral debates, Chinh held bilateral meetings with international leaders and participates in activities aimed at deepening relations with Brazil, especially in the economic, technological and environmental areas.

The story that unites Vietnam to Brazil dates back to 1912, when Ho Chi Minh, then young revolutionary in formation, landed in the port of Rio de Janeiro for medical treatment. During his brief stay, he established bonds with the local labor movement, especially with the workers of the Porto Union. This contact was the seed of a friendship that, more than a century later, remains alive and renewed.

The plaque in his honor is not only a historic milestone, but a symbol of internationalist solidarity between the Brazilian and Vietnamese peoples. As Inácio Arruda stated during the event, “Ho Chi Minh’s ideals continue to inspire those who fight for a fairer world. PCdoB today reaffirms their commitment to this inheritance, shoulder to shoulder with our comrades of the Vietnam Communist Party.”

Chinh’s visit to Brazil-the third consecutive in three years-demonstrates Vietnam’s growing interest in strengthening its bonds with Latin American countries and actively participating in multilateral forums. For PCdoB, the occasion was more than one ceremony: it was the reaffirmation of an internationalist commitment that crosses borders and generations.
