On Thursday (16), the city of Paris announced that it will no longer use the account on platform X (formerly Twitter). The action is motivated by the justification that the social network feeds hate speech and misinformation.
The publication in which the announcement is made states that the page’s public service mission became, over time, a complex and then impossible task.
According to the text, the task is complex because the reach of objective and factual messages is reduced, while it is also an impossible mission because “the network feeds hate speech and disinformation, the absence of moderation of which becomes problematic.”

The message also states that the page will close its activities for good next Monday (20) and that this choice is difficult, but essential to recreate a society with peaceful spaces for expression.
At the end, an invitation is made by the city hall for the public to start following the activities on another social network, Bluesky.

A Lusa Agency remember that the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, abandoned X in 2023, alleging that the network is a weapon of destruction against democracies. And it’s not just the city of Light that leaves Elon Musk’s network. French administrative regions that maintained profiles followed with initiative, such as Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Brittany.
