The president did not mention the businessman directly, but criticized super-rich people who have their own space programs; Secom omitted part of the transcription
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Thursday (June 13, 2024) that there are billionaires who have their own space programs and who want to leave the planet so as not to be in the same place as their workers. The statement is an indirect reference to the owner of SpaceX and X (former Twitter), Elon Musk.
“The concentration of income is so absurd that some individuals have their own space programs. Certainly, trying to find a better planet than Earth so as not to be among the workers who are responsible for their wealth. We don’t need to look for solutions on Mars. It is the Earth that needs our care”these.
The PT member spoke when defending the taxation of the super-rich in a speech during the 112th International Labor Conference, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
“Brazil is promoting the proposal to tax the super-rich in the G20 debates [grupo das 20 maiores economias do mundo]. Never before has the world had so many billionaires. We are talking about 3,000 people who hold almost US$15 trillion in wealth.”he stated.
